MRI

The UNF imaging facilities include a Magnetom TRIO 3 Teslas MRI scanner from Siemens. This scanner is using the TIM Total Imaging Matrix) technology and is entirealy dedicated to research. It is used for research projects involving functional imaging, anatomical imaging, diffusion imaging and spectroscopy.

Visual and auditory stimuli presentation systems, as well as MR compatible response devices are also available.

MRI simulation room

A simulation room with a mockup of the MRI scanner is also available to researchers. The simulation room is located right next to the actual MRI room and may be used for:

  • Subject training or additional testing not requiring to be performed inside the MR scanner
  • Debugging of stimulation programs
  • Any kind of preparation required before the ME exam e.g. installation of EEG electrodes

Optical imaging

In March 2004, the UNF acquired an optical neuroimaging system. The CW5 system was developed by TechEn and is usd to measure cerebral activity. It is portable and features good spatial and time resolution. It is an ideal way of recording brain activity on population otherwise difficult to image, like elderly people or very young children.

Data analysis

The UNF computer network is linked to the internet through the CRIUGM.

The network is used for data analysis and features about twenty calculation nodes and servers allowing every user to occupy a shared workspace as well as a personnal one. The lab is accessible 24/7 and includes 8 Linux workstations allowing users to work with the most widely used data analysis packages such as: MATLAB, SPM, FSL, AFNI, FMRISTAT or Homer. The lab is also equipped with printers, a scanner and network connections for laptops.
